For the past five years or so, I have been searching endlessly for a natural deodorant that would, at the very least, help with underarm odor.

 

I don’t know about you, but I’ll be honest, even those natural deodorants that claimed to “last for hours,” and have a “fresh scent” have not worked for me in the least.

 

I’ve tried dozens, and with every single one of them, within one hour of application I would begin to sweat (which was expected, since they don’t contain those harmful anti-perspirants).

 

But that wasn’t the worst part. The worst part was I always felt like the deodorants actually caused me to sweat. It was like I would put it on and my pits would be like, daaaaaamn it’s hot in here can we open a window?!  

 

Not only that, but within one hour I would also begin carrying an unpleasant odor around, which would stick with me pretty much all day (yes, even if I re-applied).

 

In fact, believe it or not re-applying my deodorant only made me sweat more.

 

I think this is what scares people away from using natural deodorants and to be honest, how can I blame them?

 

But here’s the real deal: It is important for our health that we avoid commercial chemical deodorants, period.

 

Commercial deodorants (especially anti-perspirants) contain a wide variety of dangerous chemicals and fragrances which are hazardous to our health. Two of the main such ingredients include aluminum (anti-perspirant agent), and parabens (compounds which can produce hormonal imbalances and have been found in breast cancer tumors).

 

Applying these two ingredients directly onto the delicate skin which protects lymph nodes and resides adjacent to the breasts, is simply unsafe.

 

So although my natural deodorants made me sweat for five years and created an insane laundry situation for me (wearing any shirt two days in a row was an absolute no-no), I vowed never to touch any one of those dangerous chemically-based deodorants again.

 

I’ll be honest, what prompted me to create my own deodorant was a mere fluke. I just plain ran out of the deodorant I was using and had no time to run to the store that day. So I decided to improvise.

 

What resulted was this amazing 3 ingredient concoction I never in a million years thought I could find.

 

I kid you not, I put it on and for 8+ hours, I had NO sweat, and NO stink. Now that’s a miracle!

 

I even had a few of my friends give it a try (after making their own at home of course…ewww what were you thinking??!) and they loved it too. One of my friends had suffered from an odor problem for years and…tadaaaaaa! Problem solved.

 

I did not get this recipe from anywhere but my own head. I’ve heard of similar ingredients in other homemade deodorants in the past, but never had an exact recipe and always heard of homemade deodorants having more than three ingredients.

 

This was merely meant to be an “in-between” deodorant for emergencies only. Well, I can confidently say this will be my regular daily deodorant from now on.

 

You’ll need:

 

1 tbsp baking soda

1 tbsp coconut oil, melted

2 drops essential oil of choice (I used lavender)

*avoid peppermint oil…this could be uncomfortable for this purpose.

 

How to:

 

Mix baking soda and coconut oil together thoroughly until well blended. Add 2 drops of your favorite essential oil and mix until blended evenly. Allow to set for 30 minutes (or use immediately if you don’t mind it runny), and apply a pea sized amount to each arm pit, spreading evenly. I just used my fingertips to apply it and washed my hands afterward.

 

And that’s it!

 

Super simple, super effective, super cheap, and should last a very long time as you don’t need much.
